Becoming Her: Mystical Makeovers, Hair Alchemy, and Crafting Your Future Soul Image

Hair has always been more than just a feature—it's a statement, a symbol, and, in many ways, a story. For centuries, the medicine women, the true goddess alchemists, treated their hair as a sacred extension of their power and wisdom. They knew that their locks were not just strands of keratin but conduits of energy, reflecting their inner strength and divine connection. Today, in our fast-paced modern world, that ancient wisdom still holds true, and I've found myself weaving it into my own journey of self-care, reinvention, and ageless beauty.

"Your hair is the crown you never take off, a symbol of your strength and beauty. Let it be as timeless and powerful as the goddess within you." — Cleopatra, Egyptian Queen

During a powerful ayahuasca ceremony, I had a vision of my future self—a woman who fully embraced her authentic identity, free from societal expectations and constraints. This vision was not just an internal shift but also a call to embody the person I wanted to become.

Growing up in the vibrant, diverse melting pot of Queens, New York, I was surrounded by expressions of beauty that were as varied as they were bold. My early exposure to different cultures shaped my approach to style, particularly when it came to hair. But it was at Pilatos, the iconic Jackson Heights salon run by the power couple Jorge and Jaime, where I truly understood the transformative power of a good hairstyle. Their salon is not just a place to get a cut or color—it's a sanctuary for reinvention, where every snip, shade, and style is crafted with the precision of an artist and the vision of a sage.

As someone who's spent years in the media industry, I've always resisted the idea of conforming to the stereotypical "newscaster" hair—perfectly polished but lacking personality. I wanted my hair to be an extension of who I am: a dynamic, evolving woman who embodies both ancient wisdom and modern-day moxie. And that's where Jorge and Jaime came in. After being exposed to the harsh elements of saltwater, sun, and heat, my hair was crying out for a transformation.

Jaime took me through an eight-hour process that felt more like a ritual than a salon appointment. We started with an air touch technique that added depth and softness, and then came the big chop—goodbye old energy, hello new vibes. The result? A fresh, youthful look that not only elongated my body but also perfectly captured the vibrant energy of a woman in her mid-40s who’s clearly sipping from the fountain of youth.

Air Touch

You see, hair care, especially as we age, is a crucial part of our self-care routine. It's about more than just looking good—it's about feeling good, inside and out. Healthy, strong hair reflects how well we care for ourselves and how committed we are to defying age with grace and sass. For women in their 40s, like myself, maintaining our hair’s vitality means embracing the holistic approach—nourishing it with the right products, keeping it trimmed and texturized, and not being afraid to experiment with color and style.

Hair is a powerful tool for reinvention. A new cut or color can bring out different facets of our personality, allowing us to play with new identities and express our evolving selves. It’s all part of the magic of agelessness—embracing change while staying true to who we are at our core. When I look in the mirror now, I see not just the woman I am, but the woman I am becoming—a media maven who balances ancient wisdom with modern-day flair.

As I prepare to step back into the public eye, Jaime has given me a style that will gracefully grow into the next chapter of my life. It’s a look that captures the essence of who I am now, while leaving room for the woman I’m still becoming.

I feel more confident because I care for myself inside and out; my hair is a representation of that.

8 weeks in and the technique is meant to blend so it grows out looking as part of the look. I do my roots every 4 to 5 weeks because of the grey.

How to Bring Your Hair Back to Life: Tips from the Alchemist's Chair

  1. Nourish from Within: Healthy hair starts with a healthy diet. Make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins and minerals, especially biotin, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for strong, shiny locks.

  2. Embrace Regular Trims: Don’t be afraid to chop off those dead ends. Regular trims not only keep your hair looking fresh but also promote growth by preventing split ends from traveling up the hair shaft.

  3. Experiment with Color: A new shade can do wonders for your self-esteem. Whether you go bold with a vibrant hue or subtle with highlights, changing your hair color is a fun way to express your personality and rejuvenate your look.

  4. Try Texturizing: Adding texture to your hair can create a softer, more youthful appearance. Ask your stylist about techniques like air touch or layering to give your hair movement and dimension.

  5. Protect Your Hair: If you spend a lot of time in the sun, saltwater, or heat, make sure to use protective products. Look for leave-in conditioners with UV protection and always rinse your hair after swimming to remove any harsh chemicals.

  6. Invest in Quality Hair Care Products: Use shampoos, conditioners, and treatments that are free of sulfates and parabens. Your hair deserves the best, so don't skimp on products that keep it healthy and shiny.

  7. Get Creative with Styles: Don’t be afraid to try new cuts and styles. Hair is a powerful tool for reinvention—embrace the freedom to play and create new looks that reflect your evolving self.

Remember, your hair is not just an accessory—it’s an expression of your inner goddess. So, take care of it, have fun with it, and let it be a reflection of the powerful, ageless woman you are.
