"In My Skin: Navigating Peri-Menopause and Embracing Personal Transformation"

As women, we are constantly evolving. Life brings us seasons of growth, challenge, and transition—whether we’re ready for them or not. Sometimes, the changes we face are external: new jobs, relationships, or moving to a new place. But often, the most profound changes are the ones happening within us, quietly transforming who we are at our core.

For many of us, this inner evolution can feel uncomfortable, even frightening. There’s a deep fear of letting go, especially when we’ve grown accustomed to a way of being or a certain level of control. We resist the unknown because it means surrendering what we’ve worked so hard to maintain. But when it’s time to grow, the discomfort is inevitable—and often, it’s the very signal that something new is being born within us.

This is the story of how we hold on to the familiar, even when it no longer serves us, and how life, in all its unpredictability, urges us to let go, trust, and evolve into our truest selves.

The Struggle to Let Go: Why We Hold On to the Familiar

We cling to what we know because it feels safe, even if it’s painful. Familiarity gives us a sense of control, even when it’s keeping us stuck. Whether it’s a job that’s draining us, a relationship that’s no longer aligned, or a version of ourselves that’s outgrown its purpose—we hold on. The ego, always looking to protect us, resists change and tries to keep us in a place where things feel predictable, even when our hearts are urging us to move forward.

But life doesn’t wait for us to be ready. It nudges, whispers, and sometimes even shouts at us to step into the unknown. This can feel unsettling, especially for those of us who’ve operated in our masculine energy, accustomed to taking care of everything and everyone. The idea of surrendering control can feel like stepping into chaos.

The Signs and Synchronicities: Life's Call to Evolve

If you’re paying attention, life will give you signs when it’s time to shift. Repeated patterns, conversations, or feelings of restlessness are all indications that something needs to change. These are the synchronicities—the universe’s way of telling you it’s time to let go and trust what’s ahead.

When you declare what you desire with conviction, the universe responds. It may not always look the way you expect, but it will always lead you to where you need to be. The discomfort you’re feeling now? It’s preparing you for the next chapter of your journey.

Creating New Habits to Support Your Nervous System

When we enter periods of transition, our nervous system can go into overdrive. This is especially true for women who have spent years in survival mode, managing everything on their own. The fight-or-flight response gets triggered easily, leaving us feeling anxious, on edge, or overwhelmed. But there are ways to ground yourself during these times of uncertainty.

  • Breathwork: Practicing deep, intentional breathing helps regulate the nervous system and brings you back into the present moment.

  • Movement: Gentle movement like dancing, yoga, stretching, or even mindful walking can release tension and keep your energy flowing.

  • Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself during this period of change. Allow yourself to rest and recharge, knowing that this is part of the process.

The Physical Journey: Understanding Perimenopause

Perimenopause isn’t just about emotional shifts—it’s about your body changing, too. Your hormones start fluctuating, and that can lead to everything from mood swings to physical discomfort. Suddenly, what worked for you in the past—whether it’s how you handle stress or how you take care of yourself—doesn’t feel right anymore. And this is where new habits come in.

Perimenopause is an opportunity to pause and reassess how we’re treating ourselves. Are we nourishing our bodies? Are we supporting our mental health? Are we creating space for rest and self-care? These are essential questions because, during this time, we need to feel grounded and safe, even when our bodies feel unpredictable.

Facing the Ego: Overcoming the Fear of Change

The ego’s role is to keep us safe. It tries to protect us from the unknown, convincing us that staying in our comfort zone is better than risking failure or discomfort. But growth doesn’t happen in comfort. Real growth requires stepping into the unknown, trusting that you have everything you need to navigate what’s coming.

The fear you’re feeling isn’t a sign to stop—it’s a sign to move forward. You can’t control everything, but you can trust yourself and the universe to guide you.
